Pinch PotsI originally wanted three pots to be geometric, clean, and minimalistic. I decided to scrap the idea of minimalism even though I love the style, and went with a burgundy (ancient jasper) glaze. The purpose for the set of pinch pots were to serve as succulent pots and as is was working on the project, I kept changing the shape, causing lines at certain parts of the clay. I think i'll be more pleased once there are plants in the pots but if i could redo them, i would. My biggest challenge was figuring out the geometric shapes i wanted to reflect and how the three pieces fit together. Im not quite satisfied with what i ended up with but still enjoyed the project. I learned you won't like every piece that you create but the more you make, the better each piece will be.
Slab potsWhen we were first given the slab project it took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do. After searching on Pintrest and Google Images for imspiration, I decded to make this. I struggled during the entire process and largly regret my choices. I had to remake the stand twice becasue the first one broke. The angles were not matching up on the actual vessel or the lid and the end product does not fit seemlessly together like i wanted. If i had the chace to redo thje project, i would go with a completely different idea. The glazes, however, turned out somewhat okay. I used saturation gold for the stand and frosted melon for the actual vessel. I learned from this project that your pieces will very rarely turn out like your visions.

Coil PotsWhen I started building my coil pot I had no design in mind and I just went with it. I added the cut-out designs at the very end to give it more texture and make it seem less cookie cutter. The biggest problems I had during the construction was trying to make the surface as clean and smooth as possible. During the glazing, I struggled trying to get glaze on the inside of the pot and creating an even coat throughout.I am pleased with the coil pot I made but wish i had time to make it taller. From this project I learned to make snap decisions and see where they take you. It might end up looking quite good.
Wheel PotsOriginally this pot was supposed to be a first try at the type of teapot i wanted to make however due to time constraints i was only able to make this pot instead of a teapot that resembled it. Nevertheless i love how it turned out except the glaze being to thin on the lid and making it turn green and the fact that it fits too tight onto the actual pot. If i had more time my teapot would be a similar shape but taller, a short spout and most likely a wire handle. |
